Are you an EMS provider who cares about patient safety and creating a culture of safety – this conference is for you!
Join us in Columbia, Missouri on Tuesday, May 15th, at the Stoney Creek Inn where you will learn about communication; balancing response times and safety; view the EMS Just Culture staff training materials; and participate in hands-on work with policies and procedures for submitting information to a PSO.
The MOCPS and the Missouri Ambulance Association (MAA) were selected for a poster presentation at the American Ambulance Association’s Annual Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas this week! The poster, titled “Confidentiality Protection for your QI Work With a Patient Safety Organization”, showcases the Missouri EMS PSO Project, and its progress to date! MOCPS, MAA, and Outcome Engineering are also sponsoring a joint vendor booth to promote the Just Culture message and the new EMS training materials which all three organizations contributed to developing.

The EMS PSO Project continues to expand! MOCPS is co-presenting a session at the Missouri EMS Conference and Expo on July 28th in Branson, Missouri, with Jason White of the Missouri Ambulance Association. This presentation will focus on the history of the Missouri EMS PSO Project, where we are today, and where we hope to see it five years from now!
The Center is proud to announce its participation in Outcome Engineering’s soon to be released video, On The Scene, a Just Culture training film for EMS. We assisted with general content for script development and participated in the panel discussion filming segment. Also including the Missouri Ambulance Association, the 30 minute film portrays rich character-driven scenarios from the EMS working environment that are easy to relate to and designed to engage the attention of staff member. Check out the trailer!
MAA’s significant role in this production included their technical expertise; along with CoxHealth EMS, St. Johns EMS, Hammons Life Line Air Ambulance and Ozark Fire Department all of which donated equipment, time, locations, staff as extras and more.
Pride in our work! We think it really shows in our recently published report: 5 Years of Progress–2010.
Safety improvement involves everyone who drives the delivery of health care, and many have established important partnerships with the Center. Together, in just five years, we established the Center as a leader in PSO services, working with more than 180 providers to report medical mistakes, efficiently learn valuable information from those mistakes, and take actions aimed at prevention. As recruitment for EMS PSO participants continues to get in to high gear, MOCPS will present information on the EMS PSO project at Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis on Friday, April 29th. These meetings are attended by many of the St. Louis area EMS agency representatives to discuss EMS coordination and management issues in the region. We hope to obtain additional support from East Central Region agencies and distribute EMS PSO contract packets!
