Resource Addresses Healthcare Worker Stress and Vulnerability
Posted: 9/19/2008 A new brochure from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) identifies sources of occupational stress, adverse health effects of such stress and recommends work practices to reduce the stress. The resource was developed in response to studies indicating that healthcare workers have higher rates of substance abuse, suicide and potential for diagnosis and treatment errors than other professions and elevated rates of depression and anxiety linked to job stress.
