MOCPS is proud to support NPSF’s Patient Safety Awareness Week, an annual education and awareness campaign for health care safety taking place this week.
The theme for 2012 is Be Aware for Safe Care, reflecting the need to involve everyone–from patients to providers–in ensuring the safety of our health care process.
Each year, health care organizations take part in the event by to create awareness and promote resources for patient safety.
Below is a list of resources available during Patient Safety Awareness Week developed and made available by several national organizations:

- ASHRM “Getting to Zero ™: Eliminating Preventable Serious Safety Events” – An interactive patient Safety Quiz - and a Patient Safety Quick Tips Checklist
- Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) – “Questions Are the Answer” a public education initiative providing resources encouraging patients and their clinicians to engage in effective communication to ensure safer care and better health outcomes. Resources include a series of videos, “Be More Involved in Your Health Care: Tips for Patients” brochure; a “notepad” to help patients prioritize their top three questions to ask during an appointment; and an interaction “Question Builder” to help patients create, prioritize and print a personalized list of questions for their health care provider. Additionally, be on the look-out for information about the MOCPS-sponsored annual Missouri Patient Safety Awareness Month in April as we continue our efforts to promote learning about and prevention of medical mistakes locally, regionally and statewide in Missouri!
