We’re excited to announce our agenda for our 6th Annual Conference, titled “Conquering Chaos – the Humanity and Science of Safe Care.” Keynoting is a courageous health care team from St. Johns in Joplin, Missouri, sharing their insights on how they ensured the safety of patients and staff during the EF-5 tornado of May, 2011. Dan Simons, PhD, author and professor will present a fun and intriguing session on “Human Factors at Play – How Our Intuitions Deceive Us” discussing tricks our mind can play in stressful and focused situations. Dr. Simons recently published book, “The Invisible Gorilla”, also be available for purchase by participants.
“Converging of Diverging Priorities” by Pat Posa, RN, St. Joseph Mercy Health Systems in Ann Arbor, and faculty for the Center’s CUSP initiatives will share her insights on ho to successfully manage the many priorities facing you as health care providers to improve quality and safety and meet the ever increasing regulatory requirements.
“The Silent Treatment” study highlights will be presented by Dorrie Fontaine, PhD, RN, FAAN from the University of Virginia and the American Academy of Critical Care Nurses. The study is a follow-up to “Silence Kills” encouraging professionals to talk about unsafe conditions and errors, highlighting there is much more work to do to establish a culture for safety, noting that safety tools and checklists aren’t enough to save lives – we need to talk!
And, panels of your colleagues sharing their experience in implementing the Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP) at their organizations, and the always popular Missouri Excellence in Safe Care Awards panel.
