13 Missouri Hospitals Join Initiative to Improve Communication and Teamwork

As part of MOCPS’ People, Priorities & Learning Together initiative, 13 Missouri hospitals have joined CUSP Teamwork & Communication Tools, launched this month, to increase patient safety at the bedside by improving communication and hand-offs at the bedside!

This 6-month module builds upon The Basics of CUSP, our first module offered last fall to teach units how to implement the Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP). Read More

Sneak Peek! EMS Just Culture Movie Trailer!

The Center is proud to announce its participation in Outcome Engineering’s soon to be released video, On The Scene, a Just Culture training film for EMS.  We assisted with general content for script development and participated in the panel discussion filming segment. Also including the Missouri Ambulance Association, the 30 minute film portrays rich character-driven scenarios from the EMS working environment that are easy to relate to and designed to engage the attention of staff member.  Check out the trailer!

MAA’s significant role in this production included their technical expertise; along with CoxHealth EMS, St. Johns EMS, Hammons Life Line Air Ambulance and Ozark Fire Department all of which donated equipment, time, locations, staff as extras and more.

Baker Covers HHS’ new $1B Patient Safety Initiative

Back in April, HHS announced its new $1 billion Patient Safety Initiative to reduce preventable injuries that occur in hospitals.  At the same time the Center was celebrating Missouri’s Patient Safety Awareness Month.  Joining us in that effort was HHS Regional Director, Judy Baker (Region 7), along with four other experts, who participated in our April 20 Patient Safety tele-forum to address a number of Patient Safety issues including HHS’ new initiative funded by resources from the 2008 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Safety improvement involves everyone who drives the delivery of health care, and many have established important partnerships with the Center.  Together, in just five years, we established the Center as a leader in PSO services, working with more than 180 providers to report medical mistakes, efficiently learn valuable information from those mistakes, and take actions aimed at prevention.
